Monika’s Book Launch and Signing Party

June 8th, 2009 ; Author - Monika, Most Popular, life

Due to weather beyond our control (and wouldn’t it be interesting if we COULD control the weather…by national vote or consensus?)….ANYWAY. Due to weather beyond our control, Monika will be postponing the book signing to July.

Monika has previously published books (I know…it’s shocking how cool that is to say). She is coming out with her next book called “Struggling for Beauty” and we are so proud and happy to share this moment with her.

Yoga TodayThis month - we’re hoping you want to learn more about Yoga. (no we’re not asking you to do it, just read about it…and maybe do it, too, for like…a minute or so….)

For articles about “Online Yoga at Home”, “Laughing Yoga Videos”, “Finding Serenity in Yoga” and more- head to our Living Well Tab (or click here if you forgot your glasses and can’t see it next to “About”).

Poor Little Heart!

April 23rd, 2009 ; Author - Monika

Nestled, quite literally, in the center of Crosby Street in downtown NYC, there is the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe. One day, a few years back, I stumbled in to get away from the rain for a while and ended up settling at one of the wooden tables with a cupcake and a cup of tea from the Cafe at the back.

Buñuelos

March 29th, 2009 ; Author - Monika, Food

Years and years ago my cousins moved to El Paso, Texas. I never quite knew why they chose Texas, but OK. I went to visit them once and while I was there I was introduced to these crunchy, sweet cinnamon-y, fried, flour tortilla things - OH MAN. I was told that these lovely little things were called “bunuelos”.

Cake Walking

March 25th, 2009 ; Author - Monika, Food

Once a month, at the beginning of the month, Bruce from Walking Tours Manhattan hosts a Dessert Fest walking tour of different parts of the city. It’s free, and all he really asks is 1$ donation that’s 100% for charity.  This month he did the dessert shops of Harlem. Since I live in the neighborhood I figured I should at least know where all the sweet shops were, that way I could find them when I need them…or avoid them when I need them. (HA!)

Foiled Again!

March 13th, 2009 ; Author - Monika, Plain Strange

She could be anyone’s Granny, but she ain’t just your run of the mill senior citizen…oooh no!… In Budapest police caught Kosztor Sandborne, 83, nicknamed “Flying Gizi“, as she was creeping into a house to rob it in Komarom, in northwest Hungary.

Apparently, it’s been Flying Gizi’s modis operandi, for the last 6o years to rob a place and make her get away by taking a commercial flight. Lately, though, she’s been taking the train because the trains in Hungary are free for senior citizens! She’s been convicted 20 times and has been on police radar since the 1950’s.

I don’t know about you, but I am going to keep a close eye on the elderly ladies I give my seat up to on the A-train.
